CRPF: Central Reserve Police Force
CRPF stands for Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF). They are a paramilitary organization that is the biggest Central Armed Police Force in India. CRPF is part of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Governmentof India. Its primary mission is to help the union and state governmentsin keeping the law and order in their territory. Its headquarters are located in New Delhi, India. Government of India has set up an academy called the CRPR academy to educate students who want to join the CRPF. As of July 2017, Sh Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar is the Director General of CRPF.

- The name CRPF is derived from CRP, the Crown Representative's Police (CRP) that was established on July 27, 1939, to protect the British people who resided in the sensitive states of India.
- In 1949, under the CRPF Act the CRP was changed to CRPF.
- On the 21st October in 1959, a small CRPF group was hit by the Chinese soldiers and 10 out of 20 CRPF members sacrificedtheir life in defense of the nation. In honor of the sacrifices of the soldiers, October 21 is celebrated as Police CommemorationDay.
- In the 1960s, a majority Battalions from state forces were amalgamated with CRPF.
- From 1965 to the present, CRPF was guarding the border between India and Pakistan. In the following year, BSF became the first to guard the border.
- It played a key role in curbing militant activities in Punjab during the 1980s as well as insurgency during the insurgency in Tripura during 1990s.
- It was in 1992 that a special unit that was part of CRPF (Rapid Action Force) was created by converting 10 unattached battalions of CRPF in order to manage riots.
